Motivated for More

As I have traveled around the state over the last few months whether it’s a Farm Bureau meeting, extension education, or talking with fellow peers across the Corn Belt one of the common themes has been: “Are you maximizing your operation?”

  • Are you looking to achieve higher yields with a different practice?

  • Do you have some equipment on the farm that is not pulling its fair share?

  • Is there a place that you always get stuck that could use a little tile for greater returns?

  • Are you equipped with a marketing plan that spreads your risk?

  • What areas of your operation could you diversify to spread your risk or increase your profit?

  • Are you struggling to find time to get the “To Do List” done?

There is not an easy answer to any of these and there are obviously more questions that could be included. The point I am trying to make is, have you sat down and evaluated your life lately. It’s difficult these days to take a time out and think outside the box with the constant pressures of everyday life but I assure you it will be time well spent! One of the most common mistakes I see when it comes to this evaluation is that we do too much and gain very little. Start small, do your research, find one or two things that will work for you, and put it into practice. You will never know if you don’t try.
